DUROLANE is a single injection treatment to relieve the pain of knee or hip Osteoarthritis.
What is DUROLANE?
Durolane is a safe injection containing non animal sterile hyaluronic acid (NASHA) that can extinguish knee joint pain or osteoarthritis. In a single injection, hyaluronic acid can provide lubrication and cushioning at the joint area, to mimic the natural hyaluronic acid also found present in human bodies. Due to the purity of the NASHA, there are no reactions or impurities. NASHA has been incorporated in over 4.5 million injections.
Durolane contains Hugh concentrations of NASHA which means that it stays in the body longer than other NASHA products which are broken down much quicker.
How is Durolane administered?
Durolane can be administered in the GP’s consulting room and only takes 10 minutes to complete. The advantage of this treatment is that it only requires a single injection into the knee or hip joint area, in comparison to other treatments that require several injections. Therefore the patient is left feeling at ease during the whole process knowing that it takes a short amount of time.
The treatment can be carried out again in subsequent visits as and when necessary.
What does Durolane actually do once it’s injected?
The Hyaluronic acid inside Durolane is a natural substance found inside the human body. It’s key properties are to act as a shock absorber. HA naturally breaks down in the body during metabolism and is then replaced. However as we get older and our metabolism slows down, replacement of HA is less often which results in less viscoelasticity, resulting in breakdown of the bone and pain as it grinds against the skin. Therefore the replenishment of HA ensures there is continued lubrication between the joints with the added viscoelasticity of HA to control the pain.
How long will Durolane last?
Compared to other drug treatments, Durolane lasts much longer thanks to hyaluronic acid.
